Lennart Poettering f5979b63cc user-util: be stricter in parse_uid()
Let's refuse "+" and "-" prefixed UIDs. Let's refuse whitespace-prefixed
UIDS, Let's refuse zero-prefixed UIDs. Let's be safe than sorry.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 156a5fd297 basic/user-util: always use base 10 for user/group numbers
We would parse numbers with base prefixes as user identifiers. For example,
"0x2b3bfa0" would be interpreted as UID==45334432 and "01750" would be
interpreted as UID==1000. This parsing was used also in cases where either a
user/group name or number may be specified. This means that names like
0x2b3bfa0 would be ambiguous: they are a valid user name according to our
documented relaxed rules, but they would also be parsed as numeric uids.

This behaviour is definitely not expected by users, since tools generally only
accept decimal numbers (e.g. id, getent passwd), while other tools only accept
user names and thus will interpret such strings as user names without even
attempting to convert them to numbers (su, ssh). So let's follow suit and only
accept numbers in decimal notation. Effectively this means that we will reject
such strings as a username/uid/groupname/gid where strict mode is used, and try
to look up a user/group with such a name in relaxed mode.

Since the function changed is fairly low-level and fairly widely used, this
affects multiple tools: loginctl show-user/enable-linger/disable-linger foo',
the third argument in sysusers.d, fourth and fifth arguments in tmpfiles.d,
etc.

Fixes #15985.

Lennart Poettering 7a8867abfa user-util: rework how we validate user names
This reworks the user validation infrastructure. There are now two
modes. In regular mode we are strict and test against a strict set of
valid chars. And in "relaxed" mode we just filter out some really
obvious, dangerous stuff. i.e. strict is whitelisting what is OK, but
"relaxed" is blacklisting what is really not OK.

The idea is that we use strict mode whenver we allocate a new user
(i.e. in sysusers.d or homed), while "relaxed" mode is when we process
users registered elsewhere, (i.e. userdb, logind, …)

The requirements on user name validity vary wildly. SSSD thinks its fine
to embedd "@" for example, while the suggested NAME_REGEX field on
Debian does not even allow uppercase chars…

This effectively liberaralizes a lot what we expect from usernames.

The code that warns about questionnable user names is now optional and
only used at places such as unit file parsing, so that it doesn't show
up on every userdb query, but only when processing configuration files
that know better.

Lennart Poettering 42f3b2f975 shared: split out crypt() specific helpers into its own .c/.h in src/shared/
This way we can use libxcrypt specific functionality such as
crypt_gensalt() and thus take benefit of the newer algorithms libxcrypt
implements. (Also adds support for a new env var $SYSTEMD_CRYPT_PREFIX
which may be used to select the hash algorithm to use for libxcrypt.)

Also, let's move the weird crypt.h inclusion into libcrypt.h so that
there's a single place for it.

Michael Biebl 6db904625d meson: make nologin path build time configurable
Some distros install nologin as /usr/sbin/nologin, others as

Since we can't really on merged-usr everywhere (where the path wouldn't
matter), make the path build time configurable via -Dnologin-path=.

Lennart Poettering fafff8f1ff user-util: rework get_user_creds()
Let's fold get_user_creds_clean() into get_user_creds(), and introduce a
flags argument for it to select "clean" behaviour. This flags parameter
also learns to other new flags:

- USER_CREDS_SYNTHESIZE_FALLBACK: in this mode the user records for
root/nobody are only synthesized as fallback. Normally, the synthesized
records take precedence over what is in the user database. With this
flag set this is reversed, and the user database takes precedence, and
the synthesized records are only used if they are missing there. This
flag should be set in cases where doing NSS is deemed safe, and where
there's interest in knowing the correct shell, for example if the
admin changed root's shell to zsh or suchlike.

- USER_CREDS_ALLOW_MISSING: if set, and a UID/GID is specified by
numeric value, and there's no user/group record for it accept it
anyway. This allows us to fix #9767

This then also ports all users to set the most appropriate flags.

Lennart Poettering 0c69794138 tree-wide: remove Lennart's copyright lines
These lines are generally out-of-date, incomplete and unnecessary. With
SPDX and git repository much more accurate and fine grained information
about licensing and authorship is available, hence let's drop the
per-file copyright notice. Of course, removing copyright lines of others
is problematic, hence this commit only removes my own lines and leaves
all others untouched. It might be nicer if sooner or later those could
go away too, making git the only and accurate source of authorship
information.

Lennart Poettering 818bf54632 tree-wide: drop 'This file is part of systemd' blurb
This part of the copyright blurb stems from the GPL use recommendations:

https://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.en.html

The concept appears to originate in times where version control was per
file, instead of per tree, and was a way to glue the files together.
Ultimately, we nowadays don't live in that world anymore, and this
information is entirely useless anyway, as people are very welcome to
copy these files into any projects they like, and they shouldn't have to
change bits that are part of our copyright header for that.

hence, let's just get rid of this old cruft, and shorten our codebase a
bit.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 11a1589223 tree-wide: drop license boilerplate
Files which are installed as-is (any .service and other unit files, .conf
files, .policy files, etc), are left as is. My assumption is that SPDX
identifiers are not yet that well known, so it's better to retain the
extended header to avoid any doubt.

I also kept any copyright lines. We can probably remove them, but it'd nice to
obtain explicit acks from all involved authors before doing that.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 7559b2da10 test-user-util: skip most tests for nobody if synthentization is off
When synthetisation is turned off, there's just too many ways those tests can
go wrong. We are not interested in verifying that the db on disk is correct,
let's just skip all checks.

In the first version of this patch, I recorded if we detected a mismatch during
configuration and only skipped tests in that case, but actually it is possible
to change the host configuration between our configuration phase and running
of the tests. It's just more robust to skip always. (This is particularly true
if tests are installed.)

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 52c6e6a8a0 test-user-util: print function delimiters
This makes it easier to see what is going on. Crashes may happen in a
nested test_{uid,gid}_to_name_one() function, and the default backtrace
doesn't show the actual string being tested.

Lennart Poettering 7e61fd02b0 user-util: synthesize user records for "nobody" the same way as for "root"
We already synthesize records for both "root" and "nobody" in
nss-systemd. Let's do the same in our own NSS wrappers that are supposed
to bypass NSS if possible. Previously this was done for "root" only, but
let's clean this up, and do the same for "nobody" too, so that we
synthesize records the same way everywhere, regardless whether in NSS or
internally.

Lennart Poettering d02608170e util: remove lookup_uid(), replace by uid_to_name()
So far we had two pretty much identical calls in user-util.[ch]:
lookup_uid() and uid_to_name(). Get rid of the former, in favour of the
latter, and while we are at it, rewrite it, to use getpwuid_r()
correctly, inside an allocation loop, as POSIX intended.
