Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 7994ac1d85 Rename ratelimit_test to ratelimit_below
When I see "test", I have to think three times what the return value
means. With "below" this is immediately clear. ratelimit_below(&limit)
sounds almost like English and is imho immediately obvious.

(I also considered ratelimit_ok, but this strongly implies that being under the
limit is somehow better. Most of the times this is true, but then we use the
ratelimit to detect triple-c-a-d, and "ok" doesn't fit so well there.)

Yu Watanabe c583dd564c timesync: try to reload DBus configuration when RequestName() fails
If dbus.service starts earlier than the dynamic user systemd-timesync

and timesyncd fails to request name.
To support such case, try to reload dbus configuration when requesting
name fails.

Peter A. Bigot 2dd79846dd time-wait-sync: use watchfile to coordinate with timesyncd
Systems that have an accurate real-time clock may have an initial
unsynchronized time that is close enough to the synchronized time that
the final adjustment doesn't trigger a waking "clock set" event. Have
timesyncd touch a file in its runtime directory as a secondary signal
for synchronization. Continue to support the timerfd-based trigger as a
sufficient condition when the watchfile is not present.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 11a1589223 tree-wide: drop license boilerplate
Files which are installed as-is (any .service and other unit files, .conf
files, .policy files, etc), are left as is. My assumption is that SPDX
identifiers are not yet that well known, so it's better to retain the
extended header to avoid any doubt.

I also kept any copyright lines. We can probably remove them, but it'd nice to
obtain explicit acks from all involved authors before doing that.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 37c1d5e97d tree-wide: warn when a directory path already exists but has bad mode/owner/type
When we are attempting to create directory somewhere in the bowels of /var/lib
and get an error that it already exists, it can be quite hard to diagnose what
is wrong (especially for a user who is not aware that the directory must have
the specified owner, and permissions not looser than what was requested). Let's
print a warning in most cases. A warning is appropriate, because such state is
usually a sign of borked installation and needs to be resolved by the adminstrator.

Matija Skala 0060bb8f5b timesync/timesyncd-manager: fix format-specifier issue
timex::time::tv_sec can have different sizes depending on the
host architecture. On x32 in particular, it is 8 bytes
long while the long int type is only 4 bytes long. Hence,
using li as a format specifier will trigger a format
error. Thus, better use PRI_TIME instead of li which is
actually the right format specifier to use for time_t.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 2c201c2140 meson: use booleans for conf.set and drop unecessary conditionals
Using conf.set() with a boolean argument does the right thing:
either #ifdef or #undef. This means that conf.set can be used unconditionally.

Previously I used '1' as the placeholder value, and that needs to be changed to
'true' for consistency (under meson 1 cannot be used in boolean context). All
checks need to be adjusted.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 5c23128dab meson: build systemd using meson
It's crucial that we can build systemd using VS2010!

... er, wait, no, that's not the official reason. We need to shed old systems
by requring python 3! Oh, no, it's something else. Maybe we need to throw out
345 years of knowlege accumulated in autotools? Whatever, this new thing is
cool and shiny, let's use it.

This is not complete, I'm throwing it out here for your amusement and critique.

- rules for sd-boot are missing. Those might be quite complicated.

- rules for tests are missing too. Those are probably quite simple and
repetitive, but there's lots of them.

- it's likely that I didn't get all the conditions right, I only tested "full"
compilation where most deps are provided and nothing is disabled.

- busname.target and all .busname units are skipped on purpose.

Otherwise, installation into $DESTDIR has the same list of files and the
autoconf install, except for .la files.

It'd be great if people had a careful look at all the library linking options.
I added stuff until things compiled, and in the end there's much less linking
then in the old system. But it seems that there's still a lot of unnecessary
deps.

meson has a `shared_module` statement, which sounds like something appropriate
for our nss and pam modules. Unfortunately, I couldn't get it to work. For the
nss modules, we need an .so version of '2', but `shared_module` disallows the
version argument. For the pam module, it also didn't work, I forgot the reason.

The handling of .m4 and .in and .m4.in files is rather awkward. It's likely
that this could be simplified. If make support is ever dropped, I think it'd
make sense to switch to a different templating system so that two different
languages and not required, which would make everything simpler yet.

v2:
- use get_pkgconfig_variable
- use sh not bash
- use add_project_arguments

v3:
- drop required:true and fix progs/prog typo

v4:
- use find_library('bz2')
- add TTY_GID definition
- define __SANE_USERSPACE_TYPES__
- use join_paths(prefix, ...) is used on all paths to make them all absolute

v5:
- replace all declare_dependency's with []
- add more conf.get guards around optional components

v6:
- drop -pipe, -Wall which are the default in meson
- use compiler.has_function() and compiler.has_header_symbol instead of the
  hand-rolled checks.
- fix duplication in 'liblibsystemd' library name
- use the right .sym file for pam_systemd
- rename 'compiler' to 'cc': shorter, and more idiomatic.

v7:
- use ENABLE_ENVIRONMENT_D not HAVE_ENVIRONMENT_D
- rename prefix to prefixdir, rootprefix to rootprefixdir
("prefix" is too common of a name and too easy to overwrite by mistake)
- wrap more stuff with conf.get('ENABLE...') == 1
- use rootprefix=='/' and rootbindir as install_dir, to fix paths under
  split-usr==true.

v8:
- use .split() also for src/coredump. Now everything is consistent ;)
- add rootlibdir option and use it on the libraries that require it

v9:
- indentation

v10:
- fix check for qrencode and libaudit

v11:
- unify handling of executable paths, provide options for all progs

This makes the meson build behave slightly differently than the
autoconf-based one, because we always first try to find the executable in the
filesystem, and fall back to the default. I think different handling of
loadkeys, setfont, and telinit was just a historical accident.

In addition to checking in $PATH, also check /usr/sbin/, /sbin for programs.
In Fedora $PATH includes /usr/sbin, (and /sbin is is a symlink to /usr/sbin),
but in Debian, those directories are not included in the path.

  C.f. https://github.com/mesonbuild/meson/issues/1576.

- call all the options 'xxx-path' for clarity.
- sort man/rules/meson.build properly so it's stable

akochetkov 5f36e3d303 timesyncd: clear ADJ_MAXERROR to keep STA_UNSYNC cleared after jump adjust (#4626)
NTP use jump adjust if system has incorrect time read from RTC during boot.
It is desireble to update RTC time as soon as NTP set correct system time.
Sometimes kernel failed to update RTC due to STA_UNSYNC get set before RTC
update finised. In that case RTC time wouldn't be updated within long time.
The commit makes RTC updates stable.

When NTP do jump time adjust using ADJ_SETOFFSET it clears STA_UNSYNC flag.
If don't clear ADJ_MAXERROR, STA_UNSYNC will be set again by kernel within
1 second (by second_overflow() function). STA_UNSYNC flag prevent RTC updates
in kernel. Sometimes the kernel is able to update RTC withing 1 second,
but sometimes it falied.

let's make it truly generic, by dropping the implicit ".d" appending it

This ports a lot of manual code over to sigprocmask_many() and friends.

Also, we now consistly check for sigprocmask() failures with
assert_se(), since the call cannot realistically fail unless there's a
programming error.

Also encloses a few sd_event_add_signal() calls with (void) when we
ignore the return values for it knowingly.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek e93549ef29 Do not advertise .d snippets over main config file
For daemons which have a main configuration file, there's
little reason for the administrator to use configuration snippets.
They are useful for packagers which need to override settings, but
we shouldn't advertise that as the main way of configuring those
services.

Lennart Poettering 7e26029ff3 timesyncd: set RLIMIT_NPROC to 2
This way timesyncd cannot be used to fork().

Note that it generally is not safe to use RLIMIT_NPROC, since it breaks
running the same daemon in multiple containers if they do not use user
namespacing. However, timesyncd is excepted from running in a container
anyway, hence it is safe in this case.

Michal Schmidt 56f64d9576 treewide: use log_*_errno whenever %m is in the format string
If the format string contains %m, clearly errno must have a meaningful
value, so we might as well use log_*_errno to have ERRNO= logged.

Using:
find . -name '*.[ch]' | xargs sed -r -i -e \
's/log_(debug|info|notice|warning|error|emergency)\((".*%m.*")/log_\1_errno(errno, \2/'

Plus some whitespace, linewrap, and indent adjustments.

  s/(if\s*\([^\n]+\))\s*{\n(\s*)(log_[a-z_]*_errno\(\s*([->a-zA-Z_]+)\s*,[^;]+);\s*return\s+\g4;\s+}/\1\n\2return \3;/msg;
  print;'
 $f
done

And a couple of manual whitespace fixups.

Michal Schmidt 0a1beeb642 treewide: auto-convert the simple cases to log_*_errno()
As a followup to 086891e5c1 "log: add an "error" parameter to all
low-level logging calls and intrdouce log_error_errno() as log calls
that take error numbers", use sed to convert the simple cases to use
the new macros:

find . -name '*.[ch]' | xargs sed -r -i -e \
's/log_(debug|info|notice|warning|error|emergency)\("(.*)%s"(.*), strerror\(-([a-zA-Z_]+)\)\);/log_\1_errno(-\4, "\2%m"\3);/'

Multi-line log_*() invocations are not covered.
And we also should add log_unit_*_errno().
