Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek ebcc52fad6 sd-device: reduce the number of implementations of device_read_db() we keep around
We had two very similar functions: device_read_db_aux and device_read_db,
and a number of wrappers for them:

device_read_db_aux
  ← device_read_db (in sd-device.c)
    ← all functions in sd-device.c, including sd_device_is_initialized

  ← device_read_db_force
     ← event_execute_rules_on_remove (in udev-event.c)

device_read_db (in device-private.c)
  ← functions in device_private.c (but not device_read_db_force):
    device_get_devnode_{mode,uid,gid}
    device_get_devlink_priority
    device_get_watch_handle
    device_clone_with_db
    ← called from udevadm, udev-{node,event,watch}.c

Before 7141e4f62c (sd-device: don't retry loading
uevent/db files more than once), the two implementations were the same. In that
commit, device_read_db_aux was changed. Those changes were reverted in the parent
commit, so the two implementations are now again the same except for superficial
differences. This commit removes device_read_db (in sd-device.c), and renames
device_read_db_aux to device_read_db_internal and makes everyone use this one
implementation. There should be no functional change.

Lennart Poettering 595225af7a tree-wide: invoke rlimit_nofile_safe() before various exec{v,ve,l}() invocations
Whenever we invoke external, foreign code from code that has
RLIMIT_NOFILE's soft limit bumped to high values, revert it to 1024
first. This is a safety precaution for compatibility with programs using
select() which cannot operate with fds > 1024.

This commit adds the call to rlimit_nofile_safe() to all invocations of
exec{v,ve,l}() and friends that either are in code that we know runs
with RLIMIT_NOFILE bumped up (which is PID 1 and all journal code for
starters) or that is part of shared code that might end up there.

The calls are placed as early as we can in processes invoking a flavour
of execve(), but after the last time we do fd manipulations, so that we
can still take benefit of the high fd limits for that.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek baaa35ad70 coccinelle: make use of SYNTHETIC_ERRNO
Ideally, coccinelle would strip unnecessary braces too. But I do not see any
option in coccinelle for this, so instead, I edited the patch text using
search&replace to remove the braces. Unfortunately this is not fully automatic,
in particular it didn't deal well with if-else-if-else blocks and ifdefs, so
there is an increased likelikehood be some bugs in such spots.

I also removed part of the patch that coccinelle generated for udev, where we
returns -1 for failure. This should be fixed independently.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 66f737b415 udev: do not pass timeout_warn_usec around, calculate it on demand
It was always set to one third of timeout_usec, so let's simplify things by
calculating it using a helper function right before it is used.

Before 9d9264ba39, udevd.c would avoid setting
timeout_warn_usec to 0, using 1 instead. This wasn't necessary, because when
timeout_warn_usec is finally used in spawn_wait(), it is ignored if
timeout_usec is 0 or timeout_warn_usec is 0. So there was no need to handle
this case specially.

Lennart Poettering 4c253ed1ca tree-wide: introduce new safe_fork() helper and port everything over
This adds a new safe_fork() wrapper around fork() and makes use of it
everywhere. The new wrapper does a couple of things we previously did
manually and separately in a safer, more correct and automatic way:

1. Optionally resets signal handlers/mask in the child

2. Sets a name on all processes we fork off right after forking off (and
the patch assigns useful names for all processes we fork off now,
following a systematic naming scheme: always enclosed in () – in order
to indicate that these are not proper, exec()ed processes, but only
forked off children, and if the process is long-running with only our
own code, without execve()'ing something else, it gets am "sd-" prefix.)

3. Optionally closes all file descriptors in the child

4. Optionally sets a PR_SET_DEATHSIG to SIGTERM in the child, in a safe
way so that the parent dying before this happens being handled
   safely.

5. Optionally reopens the logs

6. Optionally connects stdin/stdout/stderr to /dev/null

7. Debug logs about the forked off processes.

Franck Bui 7e760b79ad udev-rules: all values can contain escaped double quotes now (#6890)
This is primarly useful to support escaped double quotes in PROGRAM or
IMPORT{program} directives.

The only possibilty before this patch was to use an external shell script but
this seems too cumbersome for trivial logics such as

 PROGRAM=="/bin/sh -c 'FOO=\"%s{model}\"; echo ${FOO:0:4}'"

or any similar shell constructs that needs to deals with patterns including
whitespaces.

As it's the case for single quote and for directives running a program, words
within escaped double quotes will be considered as a single argument.

Dan Streetman e20a917105 udev-event: add replace_whitespace param to udev_event_apply_format
If replace_whitespace is true, each substitution value has all its
whitespace removed/replaced by util_replace_whitespace (except the
SUBST_RESULT substitution - $result{} or %c{} - which handles spaces
itself as field separators). All existing callers are updated to
pass false, so no functional change is made by this patch.

This is needed so the SYMLINK assignment can replace any spaces
introduced through variable substitution, becuase the SYMLINK value is
a space-separated list of symlinks to create. Any variables that
contain spaces will thus unexpectedly change the symlink value from
a single symlink to multiple incorrectly-named symlinks.

This is used in the next patch, which enables the whitespace
replacement for SYMLINK variable substitution.

Lennart Poettering 4afd3348c7 tree-wide: expose "p"-suffix unref calls in public APIs to make gcc cleanup easy
GLIB has recently started to officially support the gcc cleanup
attribute in its public API, hence let's do the same for our APIs.

With this patch we'll define an xyz_unrefp() call for each public
xyz_unref() call, to make it easy to use inside a
__attribute__((cleanup())) expression. Then, all code is ported over to
make use of this.

The new calls are also documented in the man pages, with examples how to
use them (well, I only added docs where the _unref() call itself already
had docs, and the examples, only cover sd_bus_unrefp() and
sd_event_unrefp()).

This also renames sd_lldp_free() to sd_lldp_unref(), since that's how we
tend to call our destructors these days.

Note that this defines no public macro that wraps gcc's attribute and
makes it easier to use. While I think it's our duty in the library to
make our stuff easy to use, I figure it's not our duty to make gcc's own
features easy to use on its own. Most likely, client code which wants to
make use of this should define its own:

       #define _cleanup_(function) __attribute__((cleanup(function)))

Or similar, to make the gcc feature easier to use.

Making this logic public has the benefit that we can remove three header
files whose only purpose was to define these functions internally.

See #2008.

effectively means that most files have sorted #include blocks now.

Also touches a few unrelated include files.

Tom Gundersen 53318514cc udevd: event - don't log about failures of spawn processes when this is expected
PROGRAM and IMPORT{program} uses the exit code of the spawn process to decide if a rule matches or not,
a failing process is hence normal operation and not something we should warn about.

We still warn about other types of failing processes.

Tom Gundersen 8314de1d81 udevd: simplify signal mask handling
We used to block all signals, and restore the original signal mask before exec'ing
external processes.

Now we just block the signals we care about and unconditionally unblock all signals
before exec'ing.

Tom Gundersen 8128f2297d udevd: event - port spawn_wait() to sd-event
This allows us to drop the special sigterm handling in spawn_wait()
as this will now be passed directly to the worker event loop.

We now log failing spawend processes at 'warning' level, and timeouts
are in terms of CLOCK_BOOTTIME when available, otherwise the behavior
is unchanged.

Tom Gundersen 107f2e2526 udevd: fix REMOVE handling
This reverts b67f944. Lazy loading of device properties does not work for devices
that are received over netlink, as these are sealed. Reinstate the unconditional
loading of the device db.

Tom Gundersen 3c0bab4aaf udevd: event - make db loading lazy in REMOVE event handling
We were explicitly eagerly loading the db, then deletenig the backing file and then processing the
rules/symlinks. Instead we delete the backnig db file as the last step and let the db loading be
lazy as everywhere else.

This may save us a bit of work in casese where the db is not needed, but more importantly it hides
some implementation details of libudev-device form udevd.
