Lennart Poettering e4de72876e util-lib: split out all temporary file related calls into tmpfiles-util.c
This splits out a bunch of functions from fileio.c that have to do with
temporary files. Simply to make the header files a bit shorter, and to
group things more nicely.

No code changes, just some rearranging of source files.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek baaa35ad70 coccinelle: make use of SYNTHETIC_ERRNO
Ideally, coccinelle would strip unnecessary braces too. But I do not see any
option in coccinelle for this, so instead, I edited the patch text using
search&replace to remove the braces. Unfortunately this is not fully automatic,
in particular it didn't deal well with if-else-if-else blocks and ifdefs, so
there is an increased likelikehood be some bugs in such spots.

I also removed part of the patch that coccinelle generated for udev, where we
returns -1 for failure. This should be fixed independently.

This is a bit like the info link in most of GNU's --help texts, but we

I think it's generally advisable to link up our (brief) --help texts and
our (more comprehensive) man pages a bit, so this should be an easy and
straight-forward way to do it.

Yu Watanabe 3af0a96c0f timedate: defer the property changed signal until job of starting/stopping NTP service is finished
Before this, the property changed signal is emitted immediately after
StartUnit/StopUnit method is called. So, the running state of the NTP

This makes the timing of emitting property changed signal is deferred
until job of starting/stopping NTP client service is completed.

Yu Watanabe 2770af85ac timedate: increment reference count of sd_bus_message
The commit 5d280742b6 introduces a
barrier to suppress calling context_update_ntp_status() multiple times.
However, it just stores the address of sd_bus_message object. So,
when an address is reused on the subsequent message, then the status
of NTP clients are not updated.

This makes the stored message object is referenced by the context
object. So, the subsequent message is on cirtainly different address.

Lennart Poettering 0c69794138 tree-wide: remove Lennart's copyright lines
These lines are generally out-of-date, incomplete and unnecessary. With
SPDX and git repository much more accurate and fine grained information
about licensing and authorship is available, hence let's drop the
per-file copyright notice. Of course, removing copyright lines of others
is problematic, hence this commit only removes my own lines and leaves
all others untouched. It might be nicer if sooner or later those could
go away too, making git the only and accurate source of authorship
information.

Lennart Poettering 818bf54632 tree-wide: drop 'This file is part of systemd' blurb
This part of the copyright blurb stems from the GPL use recommendations:

https://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.en.html

The concept appears to originate in times where version control was per
file, instead of per tree, and was a way to glue the files together.
Ultimately, we nowadays don't live in that world anymore, and this
information is entirely useless anyway, as people are very welcome to
copy these files into any projects they like, and they shouldn't have to
change bits that are part of our copyright header for that.

hence, let's just get rid of this old cruft, and shorten our codebase a
bit.

This didn't work during the initial conversion to meson, but should now.
A sufficiently new polkit is also required, for the .its rules files.

Note that https://github.com/mesonbuild/meson/blob/master/docs/markdown/i18n-module.md
says that 'install' argument was added in meson 0.43.0. If this is accurate,
warnigs might be generated with older mesons. Fedora has 0.43.0 across the
board, but other distros probably don't, but I guess that a warning is
prefereable to having to update do latest meson.

The advantages are:
- one less dependency (intltool)
- using the generic implementation instead of our open-coded calls
- we don't need to use the fake "_" prefixes in XML

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 5c23128dab meson: build systemd using meson
It's crucial that we can build systemd using VS2010!

... er, wait, no, that's not the official reason. We need to shed old systems
by requring python 3! Oh, no, it's something else. Maybe we need to throw out
345 years of knowlege accumulated in autotools? Whatever, this new thing is
cool and shiny, let's use it.

This is not complete, I'm throwing it out here for your amusement and critique.

- rules for sd-boot are missing. Those might be quite complicated.

- rules for tests are missing too. Those are probably quite simple and
repetitive, but there's lots of them.

- it's likely that I didn't get all the conditions right, I only tested "full"
compilation where most deps are provided and nothing is disabled.

- busname.target and all .busname units are skipped on purpose.

Otherwise, installation into $DESTDIR has the same list of files and the
autoconf install, except for .la files.

It'd be great if people had a careful look at all the library linking options.
I added stuff until things compiled, and in the end there's much less linking
then in the old system. But it seems that there's still a lot of unnecessary
deps.

meson has a `shared_module` statement, which sounds like something appropriate
for our nss and pam modules. Unfortunately, I couldn't get it to work. For the
nss modules, we need an .so version of '2', but `shared_module` disallows the
version argument. For the pam module, it also didn't work, I forgot the reason.

The handling of .m4 and .in and .m4.in files is rather awkward. It's likely
that this could be simplified. If make support is ever dropped, I think it'd
make sense to switch to a different templating system so that two different
languages and not required, which would make everything simpler yet.

- drop required:true and fix progs/prog typo

v4:
- use find_library('bz2')
- add TTY_GID definition
- define __SANE_USERSPACE_TYPES__
- use join_paths(prefix, ...) is used on all paths to make them all absolute

v5:
- replace all declare_dependency's with []
- add more conf.get guards around optional components

v6:
- drop -pipe, -Wall which are the default in meson
- use compiler.has_function() and compiler.has_header_symbol instead of the
  hand-rolled checks.
- fix duplication in 'liblibsystemd' library name
- use the right .sym file for pam_systemd
- rename 'compiler' to 'cc': shorter, and more idiomatic.

v7:
- use ENABLE_ENVIRONMENT_D not HAVE_ENVIRONMENT_D
- rename prefix to prefixdir, rootprefix to rootprefixdir
("prefix" is too common of a name and too easy to overwrite by mistake)
- wrap more stuff with conf.get('ENABLE...') == 1
- use rootprefix=='/' and rootbindir as install_dir, to fix paths under
  split-usr==true.

v8:
- use .split() also for src/coredump. Now everything is consistent ;)
- add rootlibdir option and use it on the libraries that require it

v9:
- indentation

v10:
- fix check for qrencode and libaudit

v11:
- unify handling of executable paths, provide options for all progs

This makes the meson build behave slightly differently than the
autoconf-based one, because we always first try to find the executable in the
filesystem, and fall back to the default. I think different handling of
loadkeys, setfont, and telinit was just a historical accident.

In addition to checking in $PATH, also check /usr/sbin/, /sbin for programs.
In Fedora $PATH includes /usr/sbin, (and /sbin is is a symlink to /usr/sbin),
but in Debian, those directories are not included in the path.

  C.f. https://github.com/mesonbuild/meson/issues/1576.

- call all the options 'xxx-path' for clarity.
- sort man/rules/meson.build properly so it's stable

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 2b0445262a tree-wide: add SD_ID128_MAKE_STR, remove LOG_MESSAGE_ID
Embedding sd_id128_t's in constant strings was rather cumbersome. We had
SD_ID128_CONST_STR which returned a const char[], but it had two problems:
- it wasn't possible to statically concatanate this array with a normal string
- gcc wasn't really able to optimize this, and generated code to perform the
  "conversion" at runtime.
Because of this, even our own code in coredumpctl wasn't using
SD_ID128_CONST_STR.

Add a new macro to generate a constant string: SD_ID128_MAKE_STR.
It is not as elegant as SD_ID128_CONST_STR, because it requires a repetition
of the numbers, but in practice it is more convenient to use, and allows gcc
to generate smarter code:

$ size .libs/systemd{,-logind,-journald}{.old,}
text data bss dec hex	filename
1265204 149564 4808	1419576 15a938	.libs/systemd.old
1260268 149564 4808	1414640 1595f0	.libs/systemd
 246805 13852 209 260866 3fb02	.libs/systemd-logind.old
 240973 13852 209 255034 3e43a	.libs/systemd-logind
 146839 4984 34 151857 25131	.libs/systemd-journald.old
 146391 4984 34 151409 24f71	.libs/systemd-journald

It is also much easier to check if a certain binary uses a certain MESSAGE_ID:

Lennart Poettering 43dcc86a13 sd-bus: make sure bus_map_all_properties() handle booleans right
sd-bus generally exposes bools as "int" instead of "bool" in the public API.
This is relevant when unmarshaling booleans, as the relevant functions expect
an int* pointer and no bool* pointer. Since sizeof(bool) is not necessarily the
same as sizeof(int) this is problematic and might result in memory corruption.

Let's fix this, and make sure bus_map_all_properties() handles booleans as
ints, as the rest of sd-bus, and make all users of it expect the right thing.

Lennart Poettering cf647b69ba systemctl: make sure we terminate the bus connection first, and then close the pager (#3550)
If "systemctl -H" is used, let's make sure we first terminate the bus
connection, and only then close the pager. If done in this order ssh will get
an EOF on stdin (as we speak D-Bus through ssh's stdin/stdout), and then
terminate. This makes sure the standard error we were invoked on is released by
ssh, and only that makes sure we don't deadlock on the pager which waits for
all clients closing its input pipe.

(Similar fixes for the various other xyzctl tools that support both pagers and
-H)

Alexander Kuleshov ea4b98e657 tree-wide: merge pager_open_if_enabled() to the pager_open()

Lennart Poettering 4afd3348c7 tree-wide: expose "p"-suffix unref calls in public APIs to make gcc cleanup easy
GLIB has recently started to officially support the gcc cleanup
attribute in its public API, hence let's do the same for our APIs.

With this patch we'll define an xyz_unrefp() call for each public
xyz_unref() call, to make it easy to use inside a
__attribute__((cleanup())) expression. Then, all code is ported over to
make use of this.

The new calls are also documented in the man pages, with examples how to
use them (well, I only added docs where the _unref() call itself already
had docs, and the examples, only cover sd_bus_unrefp() and
sd_event_unrefp()).

This also renames sd_lldp_free() to sd_lldp_unref(), since that's how we
tend to call our destructors these days.

Note that this defines no public macro that wraps gcc's attribute and
makes it easier to use. While I think it's our duty in the library to
make our stuff easy to use, I figure it's not our duty to make gcc's own
features easy to use on its own. Most likely, client code which wants to
make use of this should define its own:

       #define _cleanup_(function) __attribute__((cleanup(function)))

Or similar, to make the gcc feature easier to use.

Making this logic public has the benefit that we can remove three header
files whose only purpose was to define these functions internally.

See #2008.

Lennart Poettering 266f3e269d bus-util: rename bus_open_transport() to bus_connect_transport()
In sd-bus, the sd_bus_open_xyz() family of calls allocates a new bus,
while sd_bus_default_xyz() family tries to reuse the thread's default
bus. bus_open_transport() sometimes internally uses the former,
sometimes the latter family, but suggests it only calls the former via
its name. Hence, let's avoid this confusion, and generically rename the
call to bus_connect_transport().

Similar for all related calls.

And while we are at it, also change cgls + cgtop to do direct systemd
connections where possible, since all they do is talk to systemd itself.

Lennart Poettering 03976f7b4a sd-bus: introduce new sd_bus_flush_close_unref() call
sd_bus_flush_close_unref() is a call that simply combines sd_bus_flush()
(which writes all unwritten messages out) + sd_bus_close() (which
terminates the connection, releasing all unread messages) +
sd_bus_unref() (which frees the connection).

The combination of this call is used pretty frequently in systemd tools
right before exiting, and should also be relevant for most external
clients, and is hence useful to cover in a call of its own.

Previously the combination of the three calls was already done in the
_cleanup_bus_close_unref_ macro, but this was only available internally.
