Alin Popa c5f8a179a2 watchdog: reduce watchdog pings in timeout interval
The watchdog ping is performed for every iteration of manager event
loop. This results in a lot of ioctls on watchdog device driver
especially during boot or if services are aggressively using sd_notify.
Depending on the watchdog device driver this may have performance
impact on embedded systems.
The patch skips sending the watchdog to device driver if the ping is
requested before half of the watchdog timeout.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 1fedf13839 shared/watchdog: close watchdog device when done with it
The file descriptor was opened with O_CLOEXEC, so in practice this doesn't
change too much, but it seems cleaner to always close the old fd when
changing the device path.

Lennart Poettering 0c69794138 tree-wide: remove Lennart's copyright lines
These lines are generally out-of-date, incomplete and unnecessary. With
SPDX and git repository much more accurate and fine grained information
about licensing and authorship is available, hence let's drop the
per-file copyright notice. Of course, removing copyright lines of others
is problematic, hence this commit only removes my own lines and leaves
all others untouched. It might be nicer if sooner or later those could
go away too, making git the only and accurate source of authorship
information.

Lennart Poettering 818bf54632 tree-wide: drop 'This file is part of systemd' blurb
This part of the copyright blurb stems from the GPL use recommendations:

https://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.en.html

The concept appears to originate in times where version control was per
file, instead of per tree, and was a way to glue the files together.
Ultimately, we nowadays don't live in that world anymore, and this
information is entirely useless anyway, as people are very welcome to
copy these files into any projects they like, and they shouldn't have to
change bits that are part of our copyright header for that.

hence, let's just get rid of this old cruft, and shorten our codebase a
bit.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 11a1589223 tree-wide: drop license boilerplate
Files which are installed as-is (any .service and other unit files, .conf
files, .policy files, etc), are left as is. My assumption is that SPDX
identifiers are not yet that well known, so it's better to retain the
extended header to avoid any doubt.

I also kept any copyright lines. We can probably remove them, but it'd nice to
obtain explicit acks from all involved authors before doing that.

Edward A. James e4c98db335 watchdog: allow a device path to be specified
Currently systemd hardcodes the use of /dev/watchdog. This is a legacy
chardev that points to watchdog0 in the system.

Modify the watchdog API to allow a different device path to be passed
and stored. Opening the watchdog defaults to /dev/watchdog, maintaining
existing behavior.

Jean Delvare 14f494c710 watchdog: Don't require WDIOC_SETOPTIONS/WDIOS_ENABLECARD
Not all watchdog drivers implement WDIOC_SETOPTIONS. Drivers which do
not implement it have their device always enabled. So it's fine to
report an error if WDIOS_DISABLECARD is passed and the ioctl is not
implemented, however failing when WDIOS_ENABLECARD is passed and the
ioctl is not implemented is not good: if the device was already
enabled then WDIOS_ENABLECARD was a no-op and wasn't needed in the
first place. So we can just ignore the error and continue.

Michal Schmidt 56f64d9576 treewide: use log_*_errno whenever %m is in the format string
If the format string contains %m, clearly errno must have a meaningful
value, so we might as well use log_*_errno to have ERRNO= logged.

Using:
find . -name '*.[ch]' | xargs sed -r -i -e \
's/log_(debug|info|notice|warning|error|emergency)\((".*%m.*")/log_\1_errno(errno, \2/'

Plus some whitespace, linewrap, and indent adjustments.

Kay Sievers 3a43da2832 time-util: add and use USEC/NSEC_INFINIY 2014-07-29 13:20:20 +02:00
Lennart Poettering 03e334a1c7 util: replace close_nointr_nofail() by a more useful safe_close()
safe_close() automatically becomes a NOP when a negative fd is passed,
and returns -1 unconditionally. This makes it easy to write lines like
this:

        fd = safe_close(fd);

Which will close an fd if it is open, and reset the fd variable
correctly.

By making use of this new scheme we can drop a > 200 lines of code that
was required to test for non-negative fds or to reset the closed fd
variable afterwards.

Lennart Poettering 2fa4092c28 util: make time formatting a bit smarter
Instead of outputting "5h 55s 50ms 3us" we'll now output "5h
55.050003s". Also, while outputting the accuracy is configurable.

Basically we now try use "dot notation" for all time values > 1min. For
>= 1s we use 's' as unit, otherwise for >= 1ms we use 'ms' as unit, and
finally 'us'.

This should give reasonably values in most cases.
