Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek ca78ad1de9 headers: remove unneeded includes from util.h
This means we need to include many more headers in various files that simply
included util.h before, but it seems cleaner to do it this way.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 00e1adf8b1 journal: avoid buffer overread when locale name is too long
We could potentially create an unterminated string and then call normal string
operations on it. Let's be more careful: first remove the suffix we ignore anyway,
then find if the string is of acceptable length, and possibly ignore it if it
is too long. The code rejects lengths above 31 bytes. Language names that are
actually used are much shorter, so this doesn't matter much.

Lennart Poettering e4de72876e util-lib: split out all temporary file related calls into tmpfiles-util.c
This splits out a bunch of functions from fileio.c that have to do with
temporary files. Simply to make the header files a bit shorter, and to
group things more nicely.

No code changes, just some rearranging of source files.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek baaa35ad70 coccinelle: make use of SYNTHETIC_ERRNO
Ideally, coccinelle would strip unnecessary braces too. But I do not see any
option in coccinelle for this, so instead, I edited the patch text using
search&replace to remove the braces. Unfortunately this is not fully automatic,
in particular it didn't deal well with if-else-if-else blocks and ifdefs, so
there is an increased likelikehood be some bugs in such spots.

I also removed part of the patch that coccinelle generated for udev, where we
returns -1 for failure. This should be fixed independently.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek fde32028a4 Move LONG_LINE_MAX definition to fileio.h
All users of the macro (except for one, in serialize.c), use the macro in
connection with read_line(), so they must include fileio.h. Let's not play
libc games and require multiple header file to be included for the most common
use of a function.

The removal of def.h includes is not exact. I mostly went over the commits that
switch over to use read_line() and add def.h at the same time and reverted the
addition of def.h in those files.

Lennart Poettering 0c69794138 tree-wide: remove Lennart's copyright lines
These lines are generally out-of-date, incomplete and unnecessary. With
SPDX and git repository much more accurate and fine grained information
about licensing and authorship is available, hence let's drop the
per-file copyright notice. Of course, removing copyright lines of others
is problematic, hence this commit only removes my own lines and leaves
all others untouched. It might be nicer if sooner or later those could
go away too, making git the only and accurate source of authorship
information.

Lennart Poettering 818bf54632 tree-wide: drop 'This file is part of systemd' blurb
This part of the copyright blurb stems from the GPL use recommendations:

https://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.en.html

The concept appears to originate in times where version control was per
file, instead of per tree, and was a way to glue the files together.
Ultimately, we nowadays don't live in that world anymore, and this
information is entirely useless anyway, as people are very welcome to
copy these files into any projects they like, and they shouldn't have to
change bits that are part of our copyright header for that.

hence, let's just get rid of this old cruft, and shorten our codebase a
bit.

Lennart Poettering 5d13a15b1d tree-wide: drop spurious newlines (#8764)
Double newlines (i.e. one empty lines) are great to structure code. But
let's avoid triple newlines (i.e. two empty lines), quadruple newlines,
quintuple newlines, …, that's just spurious whitespace.

It's an easy way to drop 121 lines of code, and keeps the coding style
of our sources a bit tigther.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 11a1589223 tree-wide: drop license boilerplate
Files which are installed as-is (any .service and other unit files, .conf
files, .policy files, etc), are left as is. My assumption is that SPDX
identifiers are not yet that well known, so it's better to retain the
extended header to avoid any doubt.

I also kept any copyright lines. We can probably remove them, but it'd nice to
obtain explicit acks from all involved authors before doing that.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 06466a7f03 journal/catalog: fix memory leaks
Various buffers were lost because finish_item() either consumed
the buffer or allocated a new one (if an entry with the same key existed).
The caller would simply forget the buffer in either case.

Also add a check for the case when a valid identifier is followed by
an empty body. We should not allow this.

Also be more consistent in error handling and always print an error
message.

Lennart Poettering 07630cea1f util-lib: split our string related calls from util.[ch] into its own file string-util.[ch]
There are more than enough calls doing string manipulations to deserve
its own files, hence do something about it.

This patch also sorts the #include blocks of all files that needed to be
updated, according to the sorting suggestions from CODING_STYLE. Since
pretty much every file needs our string manipulation functions this
effectively means that most files have sorted #include blocks now.

Also touches a few unrelated include files.

Tom Gundersen b826ab586c hashmap: refactor hash_func
All our hash functions are based on siphash24(), factor out
siphash_init() and siphash24_finalize() and pass the siphash
state to the hash functions rather than the hash key.

This simplifies the hash functions, and in particular makes
composition simpler as calling siphash24_compress() repeatedly
on separate chunks of input has the same effect as first
concatenating the input and then calling siphash23_compress()
on the result.
