Michal Sekletár 2884836e3c core: fix the return value in order to make sure we don't dipatch method return too early
Actually, it is the same kind of problem as in d910f4c . Basically, we
need to return 1 on success code path in slice_freezer_action().
Otherwise we dispatch DBus return message too soon.

Lennart Poettering c78eefc135 parse-util: allow '-0' as alternative to '0' and '+0'
Let's allow "-0" as alternative to "+0" and "0" when parsing integers,
unless the new SAFE_ATO_REFUSE_PLUS_MINUS flag is specified.

In cases where allowing the +/- syntax shall not be allowed
SAFE_ATO_REFUSE_PLUS_MINUS is the right flag to use, but this also means
that -0 as only negative integer that fits into an unsigned value should
be acceptable if the flag is not specified.

Lennart Poettering 4f9ff96a55 conf-parser: return mtime in config_parse() and friends
This is a follow-up for 9f83091e3c.

Instead of reading the mtime off the configuration files after reading,
let's do so before reading, but with the fd we read the data from. This
is not only cleaner (as it allows us to save one stat()), but also has
the benefit that we'll detect changes that happen while we read the
files.

This also reworks unit file drop-ins to use the common code for
determining drop-in mtime, instead of reading system clock for that.

Michal Koutný 53aa85af24 cgroup: Allow empty assignments of Memory{Low,Min}=
Currently, an empty assignment of Memory{Low,Min}= directives would be
interpretted as setting it to global default, i.e. zero. However, if we
set a runtime protection value on a unit that inherits parent's
DefaultMemory{Low,Min}=, it is not possible to revert it back to the
state where the DefaultMemory{Low,Min}= is propagated from parent
slice(s).

This patch changes the semantics of the empty assignments to explicitly
nullify any value set by the user previously. Since DBus API uses
uint64_t where 0 is a valid configuration, the patch modifies DBus API
by exploiting the variant type of property value to pass the NULL value.

Michal Koutný db2b8d2e28 cgroup: Make empty assignments reset to default
When MemoryLow= or MemoryMin= is set, it is interpretted as setting the
values to infinity. This is inconsistent with the default initialization
to 0.
It'd be nice to interpret the empty assignment as fallback to
DefaultMemory* of parent slice, however, current DBus API cannot convey
such a NULL value, so stick to simply interpretting that as hard-wired
default.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 156a5fd297 basic/user-util: always use base 10 for user/group numbers
We would parse numbers with base prefixes as user identifiers. For example,
"0x2b3bfa0" would be interpreted as UID==45334432 and "01750" would be
interpreted as UID==1000. This parsing was used also in cases where either a
user/group name or number may be specified. This means that names like
0x2b3bfa0 would be ambiguous: they are a valid user name according to our
documented relaxed rules, but they would also be parsed as numeric uids.

This behaviour is definitely not expected by users, since tools generally only
accept decimal numbers (e.g. id, getent passwd), while other tools only accept
user names and thus will interpret such strings as user names without even
attempting to convert them to numbers (su, ssh). So let's follow suit and only
accept numbers in decimal notation. Effectively this means that we will reject
such strings as a username/uid/groupname/gid where strict mode is used, and try
to look up a user/group with such a name in relaxed mode.

Since the function changed is fairly low-level and fairly widely used, this
affects multiple tools: loginctl show-user/enable-linger/disable-linger foo',
the third argument in sysusers.d, fourth and fifth arguments in tmpfiles.d,
etc.

Lennart Poettering ddb82ec2a2 sd-dhcp: clean-up of DHCP lease server code
This is an attempt to clean-up the DHCP lease server type code a bit. We
now strictly use the same enum everywhere, and store server info in an
array. Moreover, we use the same nomenclature everywhere.

This only makes the changes in the sd-dhcp code. The networkd code is
untouched so far (but should be fixed up like this too. But it's more
complicated since this would then touch actual settings in .network
files).

Note that this also changes some field names in serialized lease files.
But given that these field names have not been part of a released
version of systemd yet, such a change should be ok.

This is pure renaming/refactoring, shouldn't actually change any
behaviour.

Figure 30: Vendor-specific Information Option Format

      option-code OPTION_VENDOR_OPTS (17).

      option-len 4 + length of vendor-option-data field.

enterprise-number The vendor's registered Enterprise Number as
                           maintained by IANA [IANA-PEN]. A 4-octet
                           field containing an unsigned integer.

      vendor-option-data Vendor options, interpreted by
vendor-specific code on the clients and
                           servers. A variable-length field (4 octets
less than the value in the option-len field).

The definition of the information carried in this option is vendor
specific. The vendor is indicated in the enterprise-number field.
Use of vendor-specific information allows enhanced operation,
utilizing additional features in a vendor's DHCP implementation. A
DHCP client that does not receive requested vendor-specific
information will still configure the node's IPv6 stack to be
   functional.

The vendor-option-data field MUST be encoded as a sequence of
code/length/value fields of format identical to the DHCP options (see
Section 21.1). The sub-option codes are defined by the vendor
identified in the enterprise-number field and are not managed by
IANA. Each of the sub-options is formatted as follows:

       0 1 2 3

                           field.

sub-option-len An unsigned integer giving the length of the
sub-option-data field in this sub-option in
                           octets. A 2-octet field.

sub-option-data The data area for the sub-option. The
length, in octets, is specified by
                           sub-option-len.

Multiple instances of the Vendor-specific Information option may
appear in a DHCP message. Each instance of the option is interpreted
according to the option codes defined by the vendor identified by the
Enterprise Number in that option. Servers and clients MUST NOT send
more than one instance of the Vendor-specific Information option with
the same Enterprise Number. Each instance of the Vendor-specific
Information option MAY contain multiple sub-options.

A client that is interested in receiving a Vendor-specific
   Information option:

   - MUST specify the Vendor-specific Information option in an Option
      Request option.

   - MAY specify an associated Vendor Class option (see Section 21.16).

   - MAY specify the Vendor-specific Information option with
      appropriate data.

Servers only return the Vendor-specific Information options if
specified in Option Request options from clients and:

   - MAY use the Enterprise Numbers in the associated Vendor Class
options to restrict the set of Enterprise Numbers in the
      Vendor-specific Information options returned.

   - MAY return all configured Vendor-specific Information options.

   - MAY use other information in the packet or in its configuration to
determine which set of Enterprise Numbers in the Vendor-specific
      Information options to return.

In DHCPv6-PD environment, where WAN interface requests IPv6 via DHCPv6,

serving those delegated prefixes in their router advertisement messages.
The LAN interfaces on the router themselves do not have
the IPv6 addresses assigned by networkd from the prefix it
serves on that interface. Now this patch enables it.

Susant Sahani 5c95a9134a sd-network: Rectify Advertise Message Processing by a Client
We need to fix RCC 2215 behaviour with rfc7550 errata
and https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc8415.

[RFC3315] specifies that a client must ignore an Advertise message if
a server will not assign any addresses to a client, and [RFC3633]
specifies that a client must ignore an Advertise message if a server
returns the NoPrefixAvail status to a requesting router. Thus, a
client requesting both IA_NA and IA_PD, with a server that only
offers either addresses or delegated prefixes, is not supported by
   the current protocol specifications.

Solution: a client SHOULD accept Advertise messages, even when not
all IA option types are being offered. And, in this case, the client
SHOULD include the not offered IA option types in its Request. A
client SHOULD only ignore an Advertise message when none of the
requested IA options include offered addresses or delegated prefixes.
Note that ignored messages MUST still be processed for SOL_MAX_RT and
INF_MAX_RT options as specified in [RFC7083].

Replace Section 17.1.3 of RFC 3315: (existing errata)

The client MUST ignore any Advertise message that includes a Status
Code option containing the value NoAddrsAvail, with the exception
that the client MAY display the associated status message(s) to the
     user.

With the following text (which addresses the existing erratum
[Err2471] and includes the changes made by [RFC7083]):

The client MUST ignore any Advertise message that contains no
addresses (IAADDR options encapsulated in IA_NA or IA_TA options)
and no delegated prefixes (IAPREFIX options encapsulated in IA_PD
options; see RFC 3633) with the exception that the client:

       - MUST process an included SOL_MAX_RT option (RFC 7083) and
       - MUST process an included INF_MAX_RT option (RFC 7083).

A client can display any associated status message(s) to the user
     or activity log.

The client ignoring this Advertise message MUST NOT restart the
     Solicit retransmission timer.

Tracking down #15931 confused the hell out of me, since running homed in

Let's make this more debuggable and check if we live in the host netns

This is just debug stuff, so that if things don't work, a quick debug
run will reveal what is going on.

That said, while we are at it, also fix unexpected closing of passed in

Lennart Poettering ccdf03b9c7 sd-path: drop "-dir" and "-path" suffixes from path enums
Clean up the naming of the sd-path enums. Previously, the more recently
added fields where named in the form SD_PATH_xyz_DIR and
SD_PATH_xyz_PATH, while the older fields where called just SD_PATH_xyz
and SD_PATH_SEARCH_xyz. Let's clean this up, to come to a more unified
way how we name this stuff.

I opted to stick to the old naming, i.e. dropthe suffixes. It's a bit of
a bike-shedding question of course, but I think there's a good reason to
avoid the additional DIR and PATH suffixes: the enum prefix contains
"PATH" anyway (i.e. "SD_PATH_"), so including PATH twice in each name is
redundant. Moreover, the key difference between the enums with the "dir"
and the "path" in the name is that the latter are *seach* paths, and I
think this is better emphasized by sticking to the "SEARCH" in the name.

Moreover dropping the suffixes makes the identifiers a lot shorter, in
particular in the "systemd-path" list output. And that's always good.

This means the naming pkgconfig file and in sd-path slightly deviate
(though the mapping is very simple), but I think that's OK, given that
this is developer facing and not user facing.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 3fb2326f3e shared/unit-file: make sure the old hashmaps and sets are freed upon replacement
Possibly fixes #15220. (There might be another leak. I'm still investigating.)

The leak would occur when the path cache was rebuilt. So in normal circumstances
it wouldn't be too bad, since usually the path cache is not rebuilt too often. But
the case in #15220, where new unit files are created in a loop and started, the leak
occurs once for each unit file:

$ for i in {1..300}; do cp ~/.config/systemd/user/test0001.service ~/.config/systemd/user/test$(printf %04d $i).service; systemctl --user start test$(printf %04d $i).service;done

Chris Down 4793c31083 service: Display updated WatchdogUSec from sd_notify
Suppose a service has WatchdogSec set to 2 seconds in its unit file. I
then start the service and WatchdogUSec is set correctly:

    % systemctl --user show psi-notify -p WatchdogUSec
    WatchdogUSec=2s

Now I call `sd_notify(0, "WATCHDOG_USEC=10000000")`. The new timer seems
to have taken effect, since I only send `WATCHDOG=1` every 4 seconds,
and systemd isn't triggering the watchdog handler. However, `systemctl
show` still shows WatchdogUSec as 2s:

    % systemctl --user show psi-notify -p WatchdogUSec
    WatchdogUSec=2s

This seems surprising, since this "original" watchdog timer isn't the
one taking effect any more. This patch makes it so that we instead
display the new watchdog timer after sd_notify(WATCHDOG_USEC):

    % systemctl --user show psi-notify -p WatchdogUSec
    WatchdogUSec=10s

Fixes #15726.

After having done the resolving, applications can use RFC6724 to

We can't know whether an address is reachable before having resolved it
and inspecting the routing table, and not resolving AAAA just because
there's no IPv6 default route on the main interface link them breaks
various setups, including IPv6-providing wireguard tunnels on a

Andreas Rammhold 02e9e34bd9
networkd: Add support for setting a preferred subnet id for IPv6 PD leases
This allows users to configure a subnet id that should be used instead
of automatically (sequentially) assigned subnets. The previous attempt
had the downside that the subnet id would not be the same between
networkd restarts. In some setups it is desirable to have predictable
subnet ids across restarts of services and systems.

The code for the assignment had to be broken up into two pieces. One of
them is the old (sequential) assignment of prefixes and the other is the
new assignment based on configured subnet ids. The new assignment code
has to be executed first and has to be taken into account when (later
on) allocating the "old" subnets from the same pool.

Instead of having one iteration through the links we are now trying to
allocate a prefix for every link on every delegated prefix, unless they
received an assignment in a previous iteration.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek d5e172d2fb networkd: unfoobar serialization of links
We'd start writing an entry line, then another one, then another one,
and then output the rest of the first one, and then some other random
stuff, and the rest of some other lines... Results were ...eh... random.

Let's define a helper to avoid some of the copy&paste madness, and separate
blocks that output a single line with /**********************************/.

This rework doesn't change what data is written, it only tries to fix the
format of the output. The fact that some entries only write data from
link->network, and some from either link->network or link, some stuff only
for dhpc4 leases while some for both dhpc4 and dhcp6, etc, looks rather
suspicious too, but I didn't touch this.

Lennart Poettering 2c905207db core: improve log messages when we cannot process a mount point
Whenever we pick up a new line in /proc/self/mountinfo and want to
synthesize a new mount unit from it, let's say which one it is.
Moreover, downgrade the log message when we encounter a mount point with
an overly long name to LOG_WARNING, since it's generally fine to ignore
such mount points.

Also, attach a catalog entry to explain the situation further.

Lennart Poettering ab19db01ae unit-name: tighten checks for building valid unit names
Let's be more thorough that whenever we build a unit name based on
parameters, that the result is actually a valid user name. If it isn't
fail early.

This should allows us to catch various issues earlier, in particular
when we synthesize mount units from /proc/self/mountinfo: instead of
actually attempting to allocate a mount unit we will fail much earlier
when we build the name to synthesize the unit under. Failing early is a
good thing generally.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 50f20d1bc2 busctl: verify args early and always print results to stdout
We would print the error sometimes to stdout and sometimes to stderr. It *is*
useful to get the message if one of the names is not found on the bus to
stdout, so that this shows out in the pager. So let's do verification of args
early to catch invalid arguments, and then if we receive an error over the bus
(most likely that the name is not activatable), let's print to stdout so it
gets paged. E.g. 'busctl tree org.freedesktop.systemd1 org.freedesktop.systemd2'
gives a nicely usable output.

Those are fairly trivial to reimplement, but any non-trivial user of sd-bus

I'm keeping the internal functions and making the public ones thin wrappers,

Lennart Poettering c8f145adbb homed: don't insist on authentication against host-copy user record
homed maintains two or three copies of the user's identity record per
home directory: one on the host, one inside the LUKS header, and one
embedded in the home directory.

Previously we'd insist that if a user logs in they have to authenticate
against all three, as a safety feature. This broke logging into
unfixated records however, since in that case the host version is
synthetic and thus does not carry any authentication data.

Let's hence losen the strictness here: accept authentication against
host records that carry no auth data. This should be safe as we know
after all that the second/third record will catch invalid accesses.

Jeremy Cline efdbf5fe9c shared: treat generator units as vendor units
Units created with "systemctl edit --full" from generator units aren't
removed with "systemctl revert" because units in the generator,
generator_early, and generator_late paths aren't considered vendor
units.

Alter path_is_vendor() to return true if the given path is a
generator unit, which in turn causes "systemctl revert" to remove units
created with "systemctl edit --full" as they now have vendor versions.

Lidong Zhong 9b3278d907 udev: rename the persistent link for ATA devices
ATA devices should use the ATA ids like port number and (possibly)
master/slave or multiplier id, not the generic SCSI ID.
Currently only port number is included in the link. With this patch
the link would be able to support more cases, which are a) when the
device is behind a port multiplexer b) the distinction between master
and slave (distinguished by target id).

I tried to verify scenario a) with this patch, but I failed to find a
machine with PMP SATA devices attached. But the link below

sd_dhcp_lease_get_servers() returns int, which would never be negative when
cast to size_t, so we condition check was wrong.

Lennart Poettering a60416f319 homed: fix return value mix-up
We generally return > 1 if any of the actions we are doing is instantly
complete and == 0 when we started doing it asynchronously (by forking
off homework), in our functions that execute operations on homes.

Fix a mix-up where the test for this was reversed in
home_dispatch_release() and home_dispatch_lock_all().

Lennart Poettering 09835de3cc proc-cmdline: make checking of EFI options variable optional
And do not use it in the IMPORT{cmdline} udev code. Wherever we expose
direct interfaces to check the kernel cmdline, let's not consult our
systemd-specific EFI variable, but strictly use the actual kernel
variable, because that's what we claim we do. i.e. it's fine to use the
EFI variable for our own settings, but for the generic APIs to the
kernel cmdline we should not use it.

Specifically, this applies to IMPORT{cmdline} and
ConditionKernelCommandLine=. In the latter case we weren#t checking the
EFI variable anyway, hence let's do the same for the udev case, too.
