Lennart Poettering 0f2d351f79 tree-wide: port to fd_wait_for_event()
Prompted by the discussion on #16110, let's migrate more code to
fd_wait_for_event().

This only leaves 7 places where we call into poll()/poll() directly in
our entire codebase. (one of which is fd_wait_for_event() itself)

Lennart Poettering dad28bffd6 tree-wide: check POLLNVAL everywhere
poll() sets POLLNVAL inside of the poll structures if an invalid fd is
passed. So far we generally didn't check for that, thus not taking
notice of the error. Given that this specific kind of error is generally
indication of a programming error, and given that our code is embedded
into our projects via NSS or because people link against our library,
let's explicitly check for this and convert it to EBADF.

(I ran into a busy loop because of this missing check when some of my
test code accidentally closed an fd it shouldn't close, so this is a
real thing)

Lennart Poettering b910cc72c0 tree-wide: get rid of strappend()
It's a special case of strjoin(), so no need to keep both. In particular
as typing strjoin() is even shoert than strappend().

Franck Bui 30a0554ebd coredump: rename set_iovec_field_free() into set_iovec_string_field_free()
It's more in line with its counterpart set_iovec_string_field().

Also move the definition to io-util next to set_iovec_string_field().

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 084eeb865c journald: do not store the iovec entry for process commandline on stack
This fixes a crash where we would read the commandline, whose length is under
control of the sending program, and then crash when trying to create a stack
allocation for it.

CVE-2018-16864
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1653855

The message actually doesn't get written to disk, because
journal_file_append_entry() returns -E2BIG.

Lennart Poettering 0c69794138 tree-wide: remove Lennart's copyright lines
These lines are generally out-of-date, incomplete and unnecessary. With
SPDX and git repository much more accurate and fine grained information
about licensing and authorship is available, hence let's drop the
per-file copyright notice. Of course, removing copyright lines of others
is problematic, hence this commit only removes my own lines and leaves
all others untouched. It might be nicer if sooner or later those could
go away too, making git the only and accurate source of authorship
information.

Lennart Poettering 818bf54632 tree-wide: drop 'This file is part of systemd' blurb
This part of the copyright blurb stems from the GPL use recommendations:

https://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.en.html

The concept appears to originate in times where version control was per
file, instead of per tree, and was a way to glue the files together.
Ultimately, we nowadays don't live in that world anymore, and this
information is entirely useless anyway, as people are very welcome to
copy these files into any projects they like, and they shouldn't have to
change bits that are part of our copyright header for that.

hence, let's just get rid of this old cruft, and shorten our codebase a
bit.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 11a1589223 tree-wide: drop license boilerplate
Files which are installed as-is (any .service and other unit files, .conf
files, .policy files, etc), are left as is. My assumption is that SPDX
identifiers are not yet that well known, so it's better to retain the
extended header to avoid any doubt.

I also kept any copyright lines. We can probably remove them, but it'd nice to
obtain explicit acks from all involved authors before doing that.

Lennart Poettering 665dfe9318 io-util: make flush_fd() return how many bytes where flushed
This is useful so that callers know whether anything at all and how much
was flushed.

This patches through users of this functions to ensure that the return
values > 0 which may be returned now are not propagated in public APIs.

Also, users that ignore the return value are changed to do so explicitly
now.

Lennart Poettering 971fea3203 sd-resolve: propagate timeouts in sd_resolve_wait() the same way as in sd_bus_wait(): ETIMEDOUT
Thankfully this is an internal API still, so we can mkae changes like
this.

Lennart Poettering 60d9771c59 core: rework how we flush incoming traffic when a socket unit goes down
Previously, we'd simply close and reopen the socket file descriptors. This is
problematic however, as we won't transition through the SOCKET_CHOWN state
then, and thus the file ownership won't be correct for the sockets.

Rework the flushing logic, and actually read any queued data from the sockets
for flushing, and accept any queued messages and disconnect them.

Vito Caputo 313cefa1d9 tree-wide: make ++/-- usage consistent WRT spacing
Throughout the tree there's spurious use of spaces separating ++ and --
