Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 90e30d767a Rename strv_split_extract() to strv_split_full()
Now that _full() is gone, we can rename _extract() to have the usual suffix
we use for the more featureful version.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 0645b83a40 tree-wide: replace strv_split_full() with strv_split_extract() everywhere
Behaviour is not identical, as shown by the tests in test-strv.
The combination of EXTRACT_UNQUOTE without EXTRACT_RELAX only appears in
the test, so it doesn't seem particularly important. OTOH, the difference
in handling of squished parameters could make a difference. New behaviour
is what both bash and python do, so I think we can ignore this corner case.

This change has the following advantages:
- the duplication of code paths that do a very similar thing is removed
- extract_one_word() / strv_split_extract() return a proper error code.

Luca Boccassi a082edd53a strv: add strv_split_colon_pairs function
Given a string in the format 'one:two three four:five', returns a string
vector with each word. If the second element of the tuple is not
present, an empty string is returned in its place, so that the vector
can be processed in pairs.

[zjs: use EXTRACT_UNESCAPE_SEPARATORS instead of EXTRACT_CUNESCAPE_RELAX.
This way we do escaping exactly once and in normal strict mode.]

Lennart Poettering 2e5180d38b strv: get rid of strv_clear()
Let's remove a function of questionnable utility.

strv_clear() frees the items of a string array, but not the array
itself. i.e. it half-drestructs a string array and makes it empty. This
is not too useful an operation since we almost never need to just do
that, we also want to free the whole thing. In fact, strv_clear() is
only used in one of our .c file, and there it appears like unnecessary
optimization, given that for each array with n elements it leaves the
number of free()s we need to at O(n) which is not really an optimization
at all (it goes from n+1 to n, that's all).

Lennart Poettering 6047637645 strv: when growing strv arrays piecemeal actually allocate memory in exponential steps
Let's improve memory allocation for call such as strv_extend() that just
one item to an strv: these are often called in a loop, where they used
to be very ineffecient, since we'd allocate byte-exact space. With this
change let's improve on that, by allocating exponentially by rounding up
to the next exponent of 2. This way we get GREEDY_REALLOC()-like
behaviour without passing around state.

In fact this should be good enough so that we could replace existing
loops around GREEDY_REALLOC() for strv build-up with plain strv_extend()
and get similar behaviour.

Lennart Poettering 0c69794138 tree-wide: remove Lennart's copyright lines
These lines are generally out-of-date, incomplete and unnecessary. With
SPDX and git repository much more accurate and fine grained information
about licensing and authorship is available, hence let's drop the
per-file copyright notice. Of course, removing copyright lines of others
is problematic, hence this commit only removes my own lines and leaves
all others untouched. It might be nicer if sooner or later those could
go away too, making git the only and accurate source of authorship
information.

Lennart Poettering 818bf54632 tree-wide: drop 'This file is part of systemd' blurb
This part of the copyright blurb stems from the GPL use recommendations:

https://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.en.html

The concept appears to originate in times where version control was per
file, instead of per tree, and was a way to glue the files together.
Ultimately, we nowadays don't live in that world anymore, and this
information is entirely useless anyway, as people are very welcome to
copy these files into any projects they like, and they shouldn't have to
change bits that are part of our copyright header for that.

hence, let's just get rid of this old cruft, and shorten our codebase a
bit.

Lennart Poettering da6053d0a7 tree-wide: be more careful with the type of array sizes
Previously we were a bit sloppy with the index and size types of arrays,
we'd regularly use unsigned. While I don't think this ever resulted in
real issues I think we should be more careful there and follow a
stricter regime: unless there's a strong reason not to use size_t for
array sizes and indexes, size_t it should be. Any allocations we do
ultimately will use size_t anyway, and converting forth and back between
unsigned and size_t will always be a source of problems.

Note that on 32bit machines "unsigned" and "size_t" are equivalent, and
on 64bit machines our arrays shouldn't grow that large anyway, and if
they do we have a problem, however that kind of overly large allocation
we have protections for usually, but for overflows we do not have that
so much, hence let's add it.

So yeah, it's a story of the current code being already "good enough",
but I think some extra type hygiene is better.

This patch tries to be comprehensive, but it probably isn't and I missed
a few cases. But I guess we can cover that later as we notice it. Among
smaller fixes, this changes:

1. strv_length()' return type becomes size_t

2. the unit file changes array size becomes size_t

3. DNS answer and query array sizes become size_t

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 11a1589223 tree-wide: drop license boilerplate
Files which are installed as-is (any .service and other unit files, .conf
files, .policy files, etc), are left as is. My assumption is that SPDX
identifiers are not yet that well known, so it's better to retain the
extended header to avoid any doubt.

I also kept any copyright lines. We can probably remove them, but it'd nice to
obtain explicit acks from all involved authors before doing that.

Lennart Poettering ae2a15bc14 macro: introduce TAKE_PTR() macro
This macro will read a pointer of any type, return it, and set the
pointer to NULL. This is useful as an explicit concept of passing
ownership of a memory area between pointers.

This takes inspiration from Rust:

https://doc.rust-lang.org/std/option/enum.Option.html#method.take

and was suggested by Alan Jenkins (@sourcejedi).

It drops ~160 lines of code from our codebase, which makes me like it.
Also, I think it clarifies passing of ownership, and thus helps
readability a bit (at least for the initiated who know the new macro)

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek b60df13b39 basic/strv: add an extra NUL after strings in strv_make_nulstr
strv_make_nulstr was creating a nulstr which was not a valid nulstr,
because it was missing the terminating NUL. This didn't cause any issues,
because strv_parse_nulstr correctly parsed the result, using the
separately specified length.

But it's confusing to have something called nulstr which really isn't.
It is likely that somebody will try to use strv_make_nulstr() in
some other place, incorrectly.

This patch changes strv_parse_nulstr() to produce a valid nulstr, and
changes the output length parameter to be the minimum number of bytes
which can be later on parsed by strv_parse_nulstr(). This allows the
only user in ask-password-api to be slightly simplified.

Lennart Poettering 4f4afc88ec core: rework how transient unit files and property drop-ins work
With this change the logic for placing transient unit files and drop-ins
generated via "systemctl set-property" is reworked.

The latter are now placed in the newly introduced "control" unit file
directory. The fomer are now placed in the "transient" unit file directory.

Note that the properties originally set when a transient unit was created will
be written to and stay in the transient unit file directory, while later
changes are done via drop-ins.

This is preparation for a later "systemctl revert" addition, where existing
drop-ins are flushed out, but the original transient definition is restored.
