Franck Bui b3d7aef525 automount: fix handling of default dependencies for automount units
First After=local-fs-pre.target wasn't described in the man page although it's
part of the default dependencies automatically set by pid1.

Secondly, Before=local-fs.target was only set if the automount unit was
generated from the fstab-generator because the dep was explicitly
generated. It was also not documented as a default dependency.

Fix it by managing the dep from pid1 instead.

Franck Bui 5e37d1930b pid1: by default make user units inherit their umask from the user manager
This patch changes the way user managers set the default umask for the units it
manages.

Indeed one can expect that if user manager's umask is redefined through PAM
(via /etc/login.defs or pam_umask), all its children including the units it
spawns have their umask set to the new value.

Hence make user units inherit their umask value from their parent instead of
the hard coded value 0022 but allow them to override this value via their unit
file.

Note that reexecuting managers with 'systemctl daemon-reexec' after changing
UMask= has no effect. To take effect managers need to be restarted with
'systemct restart' instead. This behavior was already present before this
patch.

Fixes #6077.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek c3362c2f97 Remove message->priority field
A warning is emitted from sd_bus_message_{get,set}_priority. Those functions
are exposed by pystemd, so we have no easy way of checking if anything is
calling them.

Just making the functions always return without doing anything would be an
option, but then we could leave the caller with an undefined variable. So I
think it's better to make the functions emit a warnings and return priority=0
in the get operation.

Vito Caputo 935052a8aa sd-bus: add va_list variants of variadic convenience functions
Consumers of the sd-bus convenience API can't make convenience
helpers of their own without va_list variants.

This commit is a mechanical change splitting out the existing function
bodies into bare va_list variants having a 'v' suffixed to the names.

The original functions now simply create the va_list before forwarding
the call on to the va_list variant, and the va_list variants dispense
with those steps.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 96d33e4ac0 Rename _PATH variables to _DIR when they refer to a directory

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 9c5bb2033d path: show various systemd directories and search paths too
So far we had various ad hoc APIs to query search paths:
systemd-analyze unit-paths, lookup_paths_log(), the pkgconfig file,
debug logs emitted by systemd-analyze cat-config.
But answering a simple question "what is the search path for tmpfiles,
sysusers, .network files, ..." is surprisingly hard.

I think we should have an api that makes it easy to query this. Pkgconfig is
not bad, but it is primarily a development tool, so it's not available in many
context. Also it can't provide support for paths which are influenced by
environment variables, and I'd like to be able to answer the question "what is
the search path for ..., assuming that VAR_FOO=... is set?".

Extending sd-path to support more of our internal paths seems to be most
flexible solution. We already have systemd-path which provides a nice
way to query, and we can add stuff like optional descriptions later on.
We we essentially get a nice programmatic and commmandline apis for the price
of one.

David Wood 7354900ddd network: Fix split in `SendOption=` on client and server
When specifying `DHCPv4.SendOption=`, it is used by systemd-networkd to
set the value of that option within the DHCP request that is sent out.
This differs to setting `DHCPServer.SendOption=`, which will place all
the options together as suboptions into the vendor-specific information
(code 43) option.

This commit adds two new config options, `DHCPv4.SendVendorOption=` and
`DHCPServer.SendVendorOption=`. These both have the behaviour of the old
`DHCPServer.SendOption=` flag, and set the value of the suboption in the
vendor-specific information option.

The behaviour of `DHCPServer.SendOption=` is then changed to reflect
that of `DHCPv4.SendOption=`. It will set the value of the corresponding
option in the DHCP request.

Merge pull request #14976 from keszybz/show-status-message

2020-03-01 23:37:41 +01:00
Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 0d066dd1a4 pid1: add new mode systemd.show-status=error and use it when 'quiet' is passed
systemd.show-status=error is useful for the case where people care about errors
only.

If people want to have a quiet boot, they most likely don't want to see all
status output even if there is a delay in boot, so make "quiet" imply
systemd.show-status=error instead of systemd.show-status=auto.

Fixes #14976.
2020-03-01 11:48:23 +01:00
Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 5bcf34ebf3 pid1: when showing error status, do not switch to status=temporary
We would flip to status=temporary mode on the first error, and then switch back
to status=auto after the initial transaction was done. This isn't very useful,
because usually all the messages about successfully started units and not
related to the original failure. In fact, all those messages most likely cause
the information about the prime error to scroll off screen. And if the user
requested quiet boot, there's no reason to think that they care about those
success messages.

Also, when logging about dependency cycles, treat this similarly to a unit
error and show the message even if the status is "soft disabled" (before we
wouldn't show it in that case).

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek e0f424790d sysctl: add glob syntax to sysctl.d files
This is intended for net.*.conf.*.foo files. Setting just "default" is not very
useful because any interfaces present before systemd-sysctl is invoked are not
affected. Setting "all" is too harsh, because the kernel takes the stronger of
the device-specific setting and the "all" value, so effectively having a weaker
setting for specific interfaces is not possible. Let's add a way in which can
set "default" first and then all the others without "all".

Antonio Russo be02c1cf42 Implemented x-systemd.{required,wanted}-by= options
Teaches systemd-fstab-generator these two unit options,
creating appropriate dependencies on the generated .mount
units. When used, they override any other automatically
generated dependencies, such as local-fs.target, and are
NOT suppressed by noauto. The new options are ignored for
/, in the same way that noauto is ignored.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek e76c60bf2a man: rework section about configuration file precedence
This section is loaded in a bunch of places, so this affects many
man pages.

1. point the reader to the synopsis section, which has the exact paths
that are used to load files.
2. put the "reference" part first, and recommendations later, in separate
paragraphs.
3. describe how individual settings and whole files are replaces.

Lennart Poettering fc89f88e56 man: document new pam_systemd features in man page
This also updates the suggested PAM snippet in a number of way:

1. Be closer to the logic nowadays implemented in Fedora where the
auth/account/password stacks are all finished off with
   pam_{deny|permit}.so

2. Make pam_unix.so just "sufficient" instead of "required" (paving
ground for pam_systemd_home.so being hooked in as additional
   sufficient module.

3. Only do pam_nologin in the "account" stack, since it's about account
   validity really.

4. Use modern parameters to pam_unix when changing passwords, i.e.
sha512 and shadow, and use already set up passwords (preparing ground
   for pam_systemd_home again)
